From the Perspective of a Sword

From the Perspective of a Sword is actually a poem I wrote some time ago and released elsewhere for a prompt challenge, where it was one of the more popular things I wrote. Given that, I thought it was high time I re-edited it to be more up to my current standards and shared it here as well.

I was forged in a fire,

And told I’d defend,

But the King craves war,

So lives I must end.

I take no joy,

In the work that I do.

Every hero I cut,

Could have been you.

I wish to be a shield,

So my dream I’d fulfill.

I long to protect,

But weapons must kill.

I am but a tool.

One day I may bend.

If only I'd break,

So my suffering could end.
