Update: June 2025
We’re at about the halfway point in the year now, so I think it’s probably about time to give you another update on what I’m working on. Although, admittedly, unlike the last few updates there is less I can give you in terms of concrete dates.
Firstly, before I get into what’s coming next for my work, a bit of an update on myself. I’ve not made it a secret that I deal with chronic health problems that can have an impact on my schedules and deadlines. This year has been one of the roughest I’ve had on that front in a while. That’s why this is the first article or blog post that I’ve put up in nearly a month. I had a particularly nasty patch and that slowed me down considerably.
I’m mostly out of the woods now, but my situation is still fluctuating. Between that and Epilogue, Ficsation and Stories Across Borders either having finished their seasons or just wrapping up, you can probably expect the next little while to be quieter in terms of content output while I recover and get my bearings.
That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop working though. There’s still going to be a steady release of content and I still have plenty of plans for the future. So, let’s get onto the part you really want to know about.
Podcasts
At this stage, I can’t give you exact time frames for the returns of either Ficsation or SAB. However, I can give you confirmation that SAB will definitely continue for a fourth season and that I fully intend to bring back Ficsation for a new season as well.
Recording for SAB always commences again in September when the weather here has started settling down again and won’t be creating too much obnoxious background noise. The plan is for Ficsation to start recording again at roughly the same time. However, I like to have a solid buffer of completed episodes for the podcasts before I start actually posting them, since I don’t want possible health flare-ups to delay my release schedule too much. So don’t expect new episodes to be going up as soon as recording resumes.
Most likely, SAB’s fourth season will start going up somewhere around November or December, January 2026 at the latest. Ficsation is a little harder to pin down since it requires a different guest every episode and therefore is dependent entirely on the schedules of other people. I’m hoping that I can get season two up before the end of the year and move onto season three by this time next year.
Epilogue
Much like the podcasts, my anthology series Epilogue will also be coming back for a new season. The new season will continue to follow a number of different people as the world comes to an end, but will be focused on a different location in the world.
I’m starting work on the new season this month, so the earliest you can expect to see season two is probably August, although September is more likely depending on the schedules of the narrators I work with.
What I can tell you for certain though is that once season two starts going up as Premium content, I will make the rest of the first season available for free both here and on YouTube.
Books
Naturally, I’m still going to keep writing books too. I don’t have any estimates on how long this will take at this time, writing a book is a time-consuming project even before factoring in all the other things I’m working on at the same time. I can tell you a little about what books I’m working on.
First up, I’m working on wrapping up the trilogy of Kudin books - what is now called the Pieces series - with a book that I am also currently calling Pieces. This one will be structurally quite different to Domino and Marble. Some chapters will be centred on Altin Cavar, finally bringing the focus onto the man who orchestrated the tragedy in Kudin and exploring the events in his life that led up to that terrible decision. Other chapters will primarily follow his daughter, Marieta, roughly a year after the attack. She will have to grapple with life as a fugitive and the moral weight of her father’s actions.
The other book I’m currently working on will be the first story unrelated to Kudin since my picture book. It doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s a YA fantasy story set in a world resembling the industrial revolution or a steampunk setting. I’ve had the idea for this story floating around for a long time in various incarnations, but I think the concept is finally solidified enough to actually be made into something. I’m excited to jump into something fantasy again after mostly writing more grounded stories for so long.
Of course though, nothing is set in stone here. I’m pretty keen on both projects, but the final forms they take might not look exactly as described here. I’ll keep you posted on my progress as each story begins to properly take form.
Articles, Blogs and Stories
While the podcasts and Epilogue are going to be on hiatus over the winter, I have no intention of stopping with my other content. I’m intending to continue posting around two articles a month and I’m also planning to continue writing a short story or poem to be shared each month as well, even without needing one every month for SAB.
I’m also toying with the idea of porting some of the articles I’m particularly pleased with over to YouTube as video essays and maybe even writing some stuff exclusively for that format if I can find the time. No guaranteed plans there yet, but it’s an idea.
Other Projects
While all that is going on, I’m going to still be exploring other avenues as well. In particular, one thing I’ve been looking into a lot is producing more animated content. One thing in that area is just about done and a lot of others are being played around with. I’ve also been dabbling with game development and a handful of other things, but nothing even close to concrete is planned in any of those areas yet. I just thought I’d let you know that I’m still exploring a lot of different avenues in which to share stories with you all.
So there you have it. I appreciate your patience with me while I deal with my health problems. Things will pick up again as I make my way deeper into the various things I’m working on and recover further from recent medical setbacks. Hopefully, you’re as excited about all of these different projects as I am. I’m very much looking forward to being able to share not just more details with you, but the eventual end results.
